Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey HE Mehmet Simsek visited MusiadUSA Washington DC office.

On January 7th, 2016 H.E. Mehmet Simsek, Deputy Prime Minister of Turkey in charge of economy, visited MUSIAD USA’s Washington DC office. MUSIAD USA’s President Mustafa Tuncer, Executive Director Ibrahim Uyar, MUSIAD USA NY Branch President A. Cetin Guzel, and MUSIAD USA Board Members Omer Er, Levent Ali Yildiz, and Yavuz Orta were present during this meeting.

MUSIAD USA’s President Mustafa Tuncer welcomed Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek, and said “on behalf of Musiad USA and its members, it is a pleasure to host the Deputy Prime Minister in Musiad USA’s Washington DC office. MUSIAD USA is acting in accordance with the objectives of Turkey’s 2023 goals and we are trying to represent Turkey in a best way in the USA. Mustafa Tuncer informed His Excellency, Mehmet Şimsek about their 2014 and 2015 activities as well as 2016 projects.”

Şimsek said trade between Turkey and the United States is way below the realized potential. “There is great potential, yet when mutual performances in foreign trade and investments of both countries are considered, the actual is not even one-tenth of the potential. We need to rediscover the U.S.,” Şimsek said. He added that while Europe is Turkey’s core market and the Middle East and Africa are developing markets, Asia and the U.S. have been neglected by the Turkish business world; therefore, they need to focus on both Asia and the Americas. He also added that the government is eager to help diversify markets to improve trade.

At the end of the meeting, Musiad USA President Mustafa Tuncer and Executive Director Ibrahim Uyar presented a gift for Deputy Prime Minister Mehmet Simsek. Mr. Simsek took pictures with Musiad USA Board Members.
